Governor Kitzhaber appoints Frank Garcia to promote diversity and inclusion in government
(Salem) - Governor Kitzhaber today announced the appointment of Mr. Frank Garcia as his Director of the Governor’s Affirmative Action Office. He will lead efforts to foster diversity, equity and inclusiveness across state government. A native of Dayton, Oregon, Mr. Garcia most recently served as the Diversity Administrator for the Oregon State Bar, where he lead and implemented a system-wide vision and strategic plan to increase diversity within Oregon.
“The more inclusive we make state government, the better we will serve our diverse state,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “Frank’s deep knowledge and experience will serve Oregon well.”
“I am excited for the opportunity to champion diversity, equity and inclusiveness across Oregon,” said Mr. Garcia.
Mr. Garcia has a BA in Sociology from Portland State University (PSU) and a Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration from New York University (NYU). Over the past 14 years, Mr. Garcia’s professional experience has been based in organizational change management related to Operations & Policy, Research & Development, Human Resources, Diversity, Multi-Cultural Communications and Public Relations, in both private and public sector.
Mr. Garcia and his wife Leslie live in Wilsonville with their two daughters.
