Governor Kitzhaber issues Sine Die statement
(SALEM, Ore.) — Following the Oregon Legislature's adjournment sine die, Governor Kitzhaber released the following statement:
“I congratulate the Oregon Legislature on a successful session under difficult circumstances. Rather than succumbing to partisanship, Democrats and Republicans came together and focused on finding solutions to the tough issues facing Oregonians.
The results speak for themselves. Bold action on job creation, health care transformation, and education reform combined with the discipline to pass a balanced budget without relying on accounting gimmicks has laid the foundation for more efficient and effective state services and a more prosperous future for our state.
I have said many times that somewhere in America a state needs to be able to demonstrate that we can weather the economic and budget challenges we face without losing our sense of community, without losing our commitment to one another, and emerge stronger and more united than where we began. We have done that in the State of Oregon and we should be proud.”
