Governor Kitzhaber announces the appointments of Courtland Geyer and Vance Day to Marion County Circuit Court
(SALEM, Ore.) — Governor Kitzhaber today announced the appointments of Courtland Geyer and Vance Day to fill the vacancies on the Marion County Circuit Court created by the retirements of Judges Pamela Abernethy and Don Dickey.
Mr. Geyer received a Bachelor of Arts from Humboldt State University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Willamette University College of Law. He has served as a deputy district attorney for the Marion County District Attorney’s Office for approximately eighteen years, where he currently serves as the Trial Team Leader for the Crimes Against Kids and Sexual Assault Unit. Mr. Geyer has been involved in a number of community efforts to protect children including serving as co-chair for the Marion County Child Abuse Response Team (CART).
Mr. Day received a Bachelor of Science degree from Warner Pacific College and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Willamette University College of Law. Mr. Day has spent the majority of his legal career representing injured workers and plaintiffs in trial courts throughout the state and in front of the Workers Compensation Board. He has served on the board of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association and numerous other community organizations. He has also served as a pro tem judge in Marion County and Salem Municipal Court. Between 2005 and 2009, Mr. Day served as the Chair of the Oregon Republican Party.
“I am pleased to appoint two strong and complementary candidates to the court. Mr. Geyer will bring his longtime commitment to helping kids to the court, along with his experience trying some of the most complicated and high profile criminal cases in Marion County,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “Likewise, Mr. Day’s many years of representing plaintiffs and injured workers will bring a type of civil litigation experience that is needed on the court. I am confident that both candidates will be fair and compassionate judges to all parties that come before the court.”
