Governor Kitzhaber appoints Margaret Shepard Van Vliet as Director of Oregon Housing and Community Services
(SALEM, Ore.) — Governor John Kitzhaber announced today the appointment of Margaret Shephard Van Vliet to fill the position of Oregon Housing and Community Services Director.
"After an extensive search, I am grateful that Margaret is bringing her distinguished career in community housing to state government," said Governor Kitzhaber. "Her experience working with cities and non-profits will be invaluable to the state's work with our partners in the community."
Ms. Van Vliet currently serves as Director of the Portland Housing Bureau for the City of Portland. She has been involved in community housing for most her career, including her service with the Housing Authority of Portland as Deputy Executive Director and, prior to that, as Deputy Director for Housing Management and Development.
Ms. Van Vliet holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from Linfield College and received a certificate for senior executives in state and local government from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.
She will begin on October 1st.
