Governor Kitzhaber names Dan Carol Director of Multi-State Issues

This first-in-nation position will help boost job creation and a clean economy

(Salem, OR) –  Governor Kitzhaber today announced that Dan Carol is joining the Governor's office as Director of Multi-State Initiatives. This new role was created to advance regional initiatives on the west coast and nationally, working with other states’ Governors and partners to accelerate job creation and a clean economy through innovative partnerships and policies.

“Collaboration across borders is a critical economic strategy for identifying new markets, funding, and partners for Oregon businesses and communities,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “Dan’s background as an innovator and catalyst in the public and private sector and his understanding of emerging economic development opportunities in areas such as clean energy make him a strong addition to our job-creation team.”

“I am honored to join the Governor’s staff and help accelerate regional economic growth, job creation, and innovation,” said Dan Carol.

Prior to joining the Governor’s office, Mr. Carol was Senior Fellow for Innovation and Clean Economy at the New Policy Institute in Washington, D.C., where he focused on new strategies to accelerate community-based job creation and authored The Acceleration Agenda (2010). Before that, Carol served as a co-founder of the Clean Economy Network and The Apollo Alliance, Content & Issues Director for the Obama for President campaign, an environmental and energy budget analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, a Presidential Management Fellow, and Staff Director for the 1992 Democratic platform for Bill Clinton. He has also served as adjunct faculty of the University of Oregon's School of Planning, Public Policy, and Management.
