Luncheon with President Fox at Western Oregon University
October 20, 2011
It is an honor and pleasure to welcome you back to Oregon and to Western Oregon University.
You have long been a proponent of cultural exchanges between our two lands. When you were Governor of Gaunajuatao, Ashland, Oregon, was your sister city.
And when I came to Mexico in 2001 for the first-ever trade mission taken by an Oregon governor, we were able to establish education exchanges for k-12 and post-secondary students and also to set up health care exchanges between our health authorities – not just to share information but also to give our respective personnel an opportunity to learn about the different health issues our countries were grappling with and to collaborate on how to effectively deal with diseases that know no borders.
Oregon is proud to have a Mexican consulate in our state and to experience the cultural richness of the Mexican community. We are honored that you have come to visit us again, and I look forward to the continued growth of our friendship and partnerships between Mexico and Oregon.
