High School College Preparation Course Approval

Oregon high schools and universities work together in many ways during the admissions process, and most of the admissions and recruitment activities are managed at the campus level. See links to Oregon public institutions here.

HECC provides the web platform for one form of collaboration between high schools and universities; the Course Approval Process. Oregon high school counselors and administrators use this process to ensure that courses considered college preparatory are recognized as such by the seven Oregon public universities according to their admissions standards.

Each year, high schools are asked to provide course updates in the course approval database platform. Representatives from s university campuses then review and verify each course as “college prep” or not. This is completed before the academic year begins, allowing schools to make adjustments to the course or student schedules for college entry requirement planning.
