Portland, OR—The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued a $6,600 civil penalty to Portland General Electric Co., for pollution of the Clackamas River. Portland General Electric hired several contractors to prepare and paint the North Fork Dam on the Clackamas River in 2016. During the time that these activities were occurring on October 10, 2016, a sheen was discovered in the reservoir behind the dam.
DEQ issued this penalty because the prepping and painting of the dam was the likely cause of the pollution in the river.
