Hillsboro, OR—The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a $13,023 civil penalty to Solarworld Americas, Inc., for improper management of hazardous waste at a facility that manufactures solar panels. In 2010 and 2011, the company generated hazardous waste which was transported without the use of a manifest. Also in November 2016, DEQ noted violations related to the storage of hazardous waste, including failing to properly label containers, storing containers without adequate aisle space and failing to post information regarding emergency procedures. The violation occurred at 25300 NW Evergreen Road in Hillsboro.

DEQ issued this penalty because the facility's failure to comply with hazardous waste rules increased the risk that the public or the environment could be harmed by mismanagement of the waste.
