Newport, OR—The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined Abate Right Inc. of Salem $2,380 for numerous asbestos project notification violations and for failing to submit final air clearance reports within 30 days of completing an asbestos abatement project.

For three separate emergency asbestos abatement projects, the company failed to submit notifications to DEQ within three days of commencing the projects.

Oregon Administrative Rules require air clearance be performed for any asbestos abatement project where more than 160 square feet of asbestos-containing material is removed from within an enclosure. For these projects, DEQ must receive final air clearance reports within 30 days. Abate Right failed to timely submit air clearance reports for four separate abatement projects.

The information allows DEQ to verify that proper air clearance has been performed and that the projects are done in compliance with DEQ standards of no more than 0.01 fibers per cubic centimeter of air.

The company has until Sept. 6 to appeal the penalty.
