Statewide, OR—The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined IRS Environmental of Portland $1,330 for failing to submit final air clearance reports within 30 days of completing four asbestos abatement projects.
The projects, in Newport, Salem, Newberg and Albany, were completed between October 2016 and February 2017. The company didn't submit the final air clearance reports until May 2017.
Under state law, DEQ must receive final air clearance reports within 30 days of the end of a project where air clearance is required. Oregon Administrative Rules require air clearance for any asbestos abatement project where more than 160 square feet of asbestos-containing material is removed from within an enclosure.
The reports allow DEQ to verify that proper air clearance has been performed and that the projects are done in compliance with DEQ standards of no more than 0.01 fibers per cubic centimeter of air.
The company has until Sept. 14 to appeal the penalty.
