Sandy, OR—The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a $36,675 civil penalty to City of Sandy for releasing chlorine and other pollutants to Tickle Creek. The chlorine released from the city's wastewater system on May 3, 2017 exceeded the pollution limits in the city's wastewater discharge permit and caused a fish kill. DEQ also ordered the City of Sandy to remediate remaining chlorine contamination and to design and construct upgrades to the city's wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal system.
