Salem, OR—Governor Kate Brown will visit schools in Lane and Multnomah counties Thursday and Friday, Sept. 21-22. There, she will ceremonially sign education bills focused on improving student outcomes, closing opportunity gaps, increasing graduation rates, and enhancing educator training and support.
“My priority is to make sure every student graduates from high school with a plan for their future,” Governor Brown said. “The innovative programs at Faubion School and Willamette High School empower our educators, ensure access to career technical education and STEAM opportunities, and prepare our students as the next generation of leaders.”
On Thursday, Governor Brown will tour Willamette High School in Eugene to meet with students in Willamette's robust CTE programs. She will ceremonially sign SB 5516
and HB 2246
, which funded historic investments in CTE and programs that reduce chronic absenteeism and improve graduation rates.
That afternoon, Governor Brown will participate in the ribbon-cutting of Oaklea Middle School's new fitness center. Three Oregon schools — Oaklea Middle School, Neil Armstrong Middle School, and Weston Middle School — were each selected to receive $100,000 state-of-the-art fitness centers
from the National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils
Don't Quit! campaign.
On Friday, Governor Brown will tour the new Faubion School and visit the 3 to PhD
Program, a unique partnership between Portland Public Schools and Concordia University that helps all students — from toddlers to college graduates — reach their potential. Governor Brown will ceremonially sign four bills that invest in educator development, equitable access to education and student engagement: SB 182
, HB 2763
, HB 2845
, and HB 3358
