Ukiah, OR—The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued a $6,000 penalty to the city of Ukiah for failing to submit monthly wastewater monitoring reports and for submitting incomplete reports in some cases.

The city is required under its water quality permit to submit monthly monitoring reports and document the number of gallons per day of wastewater that enters the facility.

From September 2016 to August 2017, the city submitted only three monthly reports to DEQ. In two of those reports, the city failed to report on the volume of wastewater entering the facility.

DEQ issued the penalty because the agency relies on monitoring and reporting requirements to ensure the facility is protective of water quality.
The city has requested a meeting with DEQ to discuss the violations.
