Oregon City, OR—The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a $44,679 civil penalty to Kruger Investments Inc., doing business as Technical Industrial Sales, for several environmental violations.

Technical Industrial Sales manufactures wood putty, inks, stains and other products for wood. In February and March 2017, the facility improperly disposed of solid waste, which then contaminated stormwater that flows from the property to local waterways.

DEQ inspectors discovered that employees of the facility rinsed totes containing its products, which deposited waste onto the ground and contaminated stormwater runoff.

The facility, located at 18574 S. Highway 99 in Oregon City, also operated without the required permit.

DEQ issued this penalty because stormwater discharges containing industrial pollutants can damage aquatic species and their habitat and reduce the safety and usability of waterways.
