Live Press Conference on Oregon’s Foster Care Crisis
Salem, OR—The conditions that our foster children, their caseworkers, and foster families face on a daily basis are heartbreaking and completely unacceptable. Tomorrow, I will be releasing an audit on the status of Oregon's Department of Human Services (DHS) foster care system.

As a foster parent myself who adopted one of my daughters out of the system, I find the audit report results especially infuriating. I believe how we treat our children reflects our heart and priorities as a state—and this report reveals that genuine introspection as a state is long overdue.

Given the urgent need to improve these severe conditions and the extensive failures found by our auditors, I have called a press conference to publicly reveal the dire reality of foster care in Oregon and address some much-needed solutions.

I encourage you to join me and our audit team tomorrow, January 31st, at 10:00am via the Capitol Press Room Livestream for this important briefing.

The scope of this foster care audit is too comprehensive for just one newsletter, and there will likely be more than one on this important topic in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I hope you will tune in tomorrow and hear the plight of our foster children, their caseworkers, and foster families.

This is one of the most important issues facing us. Our children cannot wait.
