Social Sciences - Civics and Financial Education Task Force

Welcome to the Civics and Financial Education Task Force

The Civics and Financial Education Task Force was established by the 2007 Oregon Legislature through the passage of HB 2584. The Task Force made recommendations about how to increase and improve civics and financial education in kindergarten through grade 12. Task Force members were appointed by the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Oregon House Speaker, and the Oregon Senate President.

  • February 1, 2008: Task Force appointed.
  • March 21, 2008: First meeting of the Task Force.
  • April 11, 2008: Second meeting of the Task Force, in conjunction with the Social Sciences Content and Assessment Panel.
  • May 9, 2008: Third meeting of the Task Force.
  • June 18, 2008: Create initial draft of recommendations.
  • July 9, 2008: Draft recommendations.
  • August 11, 2008: Refine draft of recommendations.
  • September 5, 2008: Finalize draft.
  • October 1, 2008: Task Force report completed and submitted to the Legislative Committees.
