Safe and Drug-Free Schools

Introduction

The Safe & Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act was created to encourage strategies that prevent violence in and around schools, strengthen programs that prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs, and increase parent involvement.

  • Safe and Supportive Schools 

    The U. S. Department of Education Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS) announced the launch of the Safe and Supportive Schools website, representing another step to provide the expertise and technical assistance needed to keep students safe.

  • Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium - The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium, led by The Center for Rural Development, is a DHS funded program providing training and resources to rural first responders.
  • Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Technical Assistance Center - We support schools, school districts, and institutions of higher education, with their community partners, in the development of high-quality emergency operations plans (EOPs) and comprehensive emergency management planning efforts.
  • FEMA Emergency Management Institute - To support the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA’s goals by improving the competencies of the U.S. officials in Emergency Management at all levels of government to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the potential effects of all types of disasters and emergencies on the American people.
  • Energetic Materials Research & Testing Center - The Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC), a major research and training division of New Mexico Tech, is internationally recognized and has over 60 years experience in explosives research and testing. EMRTC specializes in the research, development, testing, and analysis of energetic materials for both corporate and government clients.
