Personal Firewood Cutting Guidelines
·        The entire Astoria District will be open to wood cutting as described on the permits  except for areas shown on maps attached to permits. Areas excluded from firewood cutting are sold timber sales that have not been completed, recreation sites, planned operations, ecologically sensitive sites, ODOT right of way, etc.  All of these areas are shown as cross hatch on the maps.
·        The district will be designated by basins and maps for the purpose of issuing firewood permits:
North Fork
      ·        No permits will be issued for areas behind locked gates.
·        Areas are designated by maps attached to the permit showing ODF ownership and areas of exclusion, i.e. sold timber sales, recreation sites, planned operations, ecologically sensitive sites, etc.
·        In the field, signs excluding firewood cutting will be posted at active timber sales and recreation sites.
·        Signs are only for guidance and signs may not be at every operation and may not be replaced in a timely manner. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to determine if they are in an area available for firewood cutting as shown on the map.
·        Maps will be reviewed and updated at the end of each month to reflect changes of timber sales, ecologically sensitive sites, planned sales, etc.
·        Firewood cannot be requested, tagged or otherwise claimed.
·        Only down wood is designated within 50 feet of the road. Felled trees are not allowed to be cut for firewood.
·        All areas will be approved for firewood cutting as shown on the maps. No review and approval will be required by District personnel.
·        It will be the responsibility of the permit holder to know where they are located in the forest and comply with designated site exclusions.
·        At this time there will be no limits on the number of permits sold in each basin.  This will be reviewed and may change in the future.
·        Firewood cutting will be closed during fire season, which is generally from July 1st to October 1st.
