The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) recently announced the selection of Rob Pentzer as the new John Day Unit Forester. Pentzer replaces Angie Johnson, who took a new position with the agency in its Salem headquarters. The John Day Unit is one of three units in ODF’s Central Oregon District.
According to District Forester George Ponte, Pentzer is highly qualified to manage the complexities of the John Day Unit.
“Rob comes to us from the Idaho Division of Lands (IDL) where he worked since 1996, first as a seasonal firefighter and then moving up to his current position as a resource supervisor in IDL’s Craigmont office,” Ponte said. “He has lots of experience in fire and forestry, and I’m very excited that he will be joining our team.”
Pentzer is a graduate of the University of Idaho, where he earned a bachelor’s in forest ecosystem management. He is married and has three daughters.
Pentzer’s first day on the job will be July 9. Landowners, local officials and the public are invited to an open house at the ODF office on Patterson Bridge Road in John Day to meet the new unit forester. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
