Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 3 assumed command of a complex of  wildfires burning on state-protected private land and federal forestlands on Monday afternoon, August 18th. The fires, known as the Summit Springs Complex, ranged in size from a few trees to over 1200 acres, and were located over a large area between 10 and 20 miles north of Sisters Oregon.  First reported on Sunday evening, August 17th, after a series of lightning storms moved through the Central Oregon area, the fires burned through a variety of timber types and grasslands.

With the fires beginning to wind down, crews are demobilizing from the fire.  A local Type 3 Team of approximately 170 firefighters shadowed the Incident Command Team and assumed full command of the complex at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2008.  The Type 3 Team will focus their efforts on continuing to patrol fire lines, completing mop-up, and aiding in resource restoration activities.
