| High Lakes camping (Rhody Lake and Butte Lakes) |
|
Located in the Santiam State Forest, the High Lakes Recreation Area offers visitors a unique experience on Oregon Department of Forestry state forest lands. Rhody Lake and the three Butte Lakes are small high-elevation lakes (around 3000 feet), nestled among pine and fir trees. Rhody Lake is open to car camping. A vault toilet and trash collection are provided. Butte Lakes are accessible by hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding only. Visitors should practice Leave No Trace camping, and pack it in and pack it out at Butte Lakes. Because of the remoteness of these sites, campfires are not allowed during fire season. Please use propane camp stoves or propane grills. The High Lakes Recreation Area is usually open from May through September, although depending on the snow levels, actual access may differ.
