Residents of northwestern Oregon have already hunkered down for the rainy season, and fire season is becoming a distant memory. But Saturday's 97-acre wildfire near Ukiah in the Oregon Department of Forestry's (ODF) Northeast Oregon District underscores just how much the climate differs from one side of the Cascade Mountains to the other.
A debris burn escaped control, moved into dry vegetation and spread into a wildfire that required ODF firefighting personnel and four fire engines to contain. The blaze was stopped on Sunday and entered mop-up phase.
