Changes in the amount of Oregon covered by forests has been largely influenced by land being developed to non-forest uses -- which reduces forest cover -- and new tree planting and aggressive wildfire suppression practices -- which have increased forest cover.

This map product analyzes the general type of land cover in Oregon, including distinctions between forest, developed lands, agriculture, water, grassland, juniper and sagebrush.
Map product was compiled from data collected by the U.S. Forest Service PNW Research Station in Corvallis, Oregon State University and the Oregon Department of Forestry.

Data for the Forest Atlas was compiled by staff with the Oregon Department of Forestry in 2010 using data generated by the U.S. Forest Service PNW Research Station in Corvallis, Oregon State University and the Oregon Department of Forestry.
