Declines in the Number of Oregon Forest Products Mills: 1980-2010
This presentation shows the trend in the reduction in wood products mills associated with the forest products industry (saw timber, plywood, veneer, pulp) and the loss of mill employment starting with 1980.  With each successive year, the mills that close are displayed along with the corresponding reduced level of employment.  The loss of mills does not necessarily mean a loss in milling capacity as older, smaller mills may be replaced by new or retooled mills with larger production capacity per mill worker.
Data was supplied to the Oregon Department of Forestry by Paul F. Ehinger and Associates.
Please note:  Mill locations are approximate so as to prevent over lap.
