Map showing major Oregon forest insect and disease areas between 1986 and 2009
Oregon forest lands are consistently impacted by insect, disease, animal and environmental agents that can lead to substantial damage and loss. Forest landowners with an interest in the locations and extent of forest damage and mortality contribute to annual statewide aerial surveys. For the period 1986 through 2009, the approximate location and size of areas of tree damage and mortality are shown for the peak year or years for some of Oregon’s most significant insect and disease outbreaks; chosen because of the area of forestland impacted or the outbreaks potential to cause serious ecological and economic losses to forest resources and value.
