Forest Areas Affected by Insect and Disease Damage - 2009

Return to the Forest Atlas main page

Tree mortality from insect and disease outbreaks, weather events, and fire are all important and interrelated disturbance factors affecting Oregon’s forests. In many cases, native insect and disease outbreaks can be viewed as positive processes that increase diversity across the landscape. However, when these disturbances negatively impact people’s values (destroying wood production value or creating visual blight, for example) or when disturbances are unusually severe or widespread they are often referred to as unhealthy.
