As of October 1,2014, Notifications of Operation are now sumitted electronically using the new E-Notification (or FERNS) system. A notification must be filed before beginning any forest operation, and there may be special requirements you must meet.
How to file a Notification of Operation?
What is E-Notification?
To streamline the steps needed before doing a forest operation, E-Notification combines the three steps (notifying the State Forester about the forest operation; applying to use fire or operate machinery; and notifying the State Forester and Department of Revenue about the intent to harvest timber) into one notification.
Here are a few of the functions of E-Notification:
E-Notification will allow you to Notify the Oregon Department of Forestry prior to conducting an operation or forest practice. You must file a Notification of Operation at least 15 days before starting the operation.
E-Notification will also allow you to notify the Oregon Department of Revenue of the intent to harvest timber.
E-Notification will allow you to apply for a Permit to Use Fire or Power-Driven Machinery (PDM). You must obtain this permit for any operation that used fire or power driven machinery.
E-Notification will allow you to subscribe to receive notifications of operation and information alerts.
