9-1-1's Transition into the Future

Evolving technology is growing beyond the capacity of the current 9-1-1 emergency communications system. In an effort to update the systems, the 9-1-1 program must invest in newer technology, such as Text to 9-1-1 and Next Generation 9-1-1.

Network Replacement Project

As 9-1-1 transitions into the future, older networks will be replaced by Internet Protocol (IP) based, flexible, secure and redundant networks capable of greater data handling capabilities.

Text to 9-1-1

The traditional 9-1-1 voice call is no longer the only way to access 9-1-1. This page discusses the current capability of receiving text calls within 9-1-1 centers across the state.

Next Generation 9-1-1

Oregon is transitioning to Next Generation (NG) 9-1-1, which provides Oregon’s 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) with greater emergency communication capabilities. NG9-1-1 incorporates modern technologies and standards to ensure uniform, prompt and efficient access to better serve the public.
