The Oregon Health Authority created a temporary insurance program to make sure OMIP members do not lose coverage if they have not been enrolled in a new plan by January 1. The program is called the Temporary Medical Insurance Plan (TMIP), and provides an insurance safety-net so that members do not have a gap in care when OMIP ends on December 31, 2013.
OMIP members who need coverage will be automatically enrolled in the temporary plan (TMIP). Members will receive more information in the mail during the week of December 16. Members must pay their January premiums to keep the new TMIP coverage.
TMIP will only be offered to OMIP members who have not been enrolled in a new plan. It is a short-term emergency plan that will provide coverage while members are completing their enrollment into the Oregon Health Plan, a Qualified Health Plan through Cover Oregon or a commercial direct market plan. TMIP coverage is on a month-to-month basis.
The Oregon Health Authority will work closely with TMIP members to help facilitate successful transition out of TMIP and into new coverage as soon as possible. Any members remaining in temporary coverage on March 31, 2014 will lose coverage when the temporary program ends.
