What to know:
  • The federal government has declared the opioid crisis a public health emergency. More than 2 million Americans are estimated to have an opioid use disorder.
  • Alcohol and marijuana remain by far the most commonly used drugs among teens.
  • Alcohol has been definitively linked to various cancers including esophageal, breast, and colon cancer.
  • Unscrupulous treatment centers have popped up—especially in California and Florida—and can seriously harm patients.
  • The PEBB Moda plan offers comprehensive coverage for treatment for addiction.
    • Most people can be treated safely and effectively on an outpatient basis.
    • Many people benefit from medication-assisted treatment.
What to do:
  • Limit alcohol use to no more than one drink per day for women or two drinks per day for men.
  • If you or a loved one need alcohol or drug treatment: Use an in-network provider whose quality and legitimacy has been thoroughly vetted.
