Relapsing Fever

Disease Information

Relapsing fever is spread to humans by the bites of soft-bodied ticks or human body lice. The illness is caused by the bacteria Borrelia, and is characterized by a recurring fever.

What is required?

For Health Care Providers and Clinical Laboratories

Health care providers and clinical laboratories are required by law to report cases and suspect cases of relapsing fever within one working day upon identification. Call 971-673-1111 to reach the state health department doctor on call.
