>Chickenpox is a very contagious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). It causes a blister-like rash, itching, tiredness, and fever. Chickenpox can be serious, especially in babies, adults, and people with weakened immune systems. The best way to prevent chickenpox is to get the chickenpox vaccine.
Disease Reporting
Chickenpox (varicella) is not a reportable disease. However, an individual who attends or works at a school or child care facility, or who works at a health care facility or food service facility may not attend or work at a school or facility while in the communicable stage the disease per
OAR 333-019-0010. If sufficient measures have been taken to prevent transmission, or the disease is no longer communicable, these restrictions can be removed as described in
OAR 333-019-0014.
