The primary role of Legal Affairs is to oversee the State Hospital Review Panel (SHRP) hearing process and ensure that hospital staff are prepared for Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB) hearings. This includes maintaining an extensive database of past hearings, legal actions and legal files.
In addition to working with SHRP, Legal Affairs works with OSH staff to provide trainings, review policies, answer questions and ensure that the hospital is in compliance with policies, rules and statutes. Legal Affairs also assists with the implementation of new laws relevant to the hospital.
Legal Affairs coordinates all communication on behalf of the hospital with district attorneys, defense attorneys, the Attorney General’s office and community partners regarding legal issues involving the hospital, its staff and its patients.
