Percutaneous Interventions for Low Back Pain

Next Steps

No further updates to this coverage guidance are planned, as the interventions are covered under two new topics:

In preparation for the upcoming rescan of evidence for this coverage guidance, a draft scope statement has been posted for comment from 7/20/2016 to 8 a.m. on 7/27/2016. See our public comment page for details. The coverage guidance scope reflects the separate planned coverage guidance on Corticosteroid Injections for Low Back Pain. Because of this change, a new coverage guidance will be developed for the remaining percutaneous and minimally invasive interventions. It will be tracked on a separate blog under the name "Low Back Pain: Minimally Invasive and Non-Corticosteroid Percutaneous Interventions."

HERC authorized the development of a new coverage guidance on the topic of Corticosteroid Injections for Low Pack Pain, which includes some (but not all) of the interventions in this coverage guidance. The existing coverage guidance has been updated to mention that fact.

EbGS reviewed the draft scope statement and staff scoring recommendations at its meeting and referred them to HERC for consideration in topic selection.

Scope statement posted for public comment 1/11/16 to 8:00 am 1/19/16.

This topic is under consideration for creation of a new coverage guidance. HERC will decide on next topics for coverage guidance development at its March 10, 2016 HERC meeting.

After reviewing the results of a literature search conducted in September, 2014, HERC reaffirmed the coverage guidance. The guidance has been reformatted to reflect the style of more recent coverage guidances.

The HERC reviewed the draft coverage guidance as referred by the EbGS on September 7, 2012 and approved it with no changes.
8/8/2012 - 9/7/2012

The EbGS reviewed the initial draft coverage guidance on 9/7/12.
