August 4, 2014 — Fanina Padykula and her husband avoided going to the doctor because they couldn't afford it.

Her husband, Michael, 37, hadn't been to a doctor much since he broke his arm when he was a kid.

After the Oregon Health Plan was opened to more Oregonians earlier this year, Fanina worked with a Cover Oregon community partner who helped her with application.

"Everyone was super patient and super happy. I didn't know we would qualify for the Oregon Health Plan. It was such a relief. I feel so blessed. It has taken a weight off our shoulders," Fanina, 31, of Portland, said.

Fanina's relief comes from the fact she can now afford to get preventive screenings and immunizations. Plus, she and her husband can now get dental care. She said it's been four years since she's seen a dentist.
