HB 2611 Cultural Competency Continuing Education for Health Care Professionals RAC

The Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) has convened a Rule Advisory Committee for House Bill (HB) 2611.  This new law allows health care professional boards to adopt rules which may require a person authorized to practice the profession to receive cultural competency continuing education approved by Oregon Health Authority.

The purpose of the RAC is to provide feedback and input to the Oregon Health Authority on establishment and implementation of a program and system to improve the cultural competence of licensed health care professionals in Oregon, as well as review the Statement of Fiscal Impact for the proposed rules.

In 2012, OEI staffed a Cultural Competency Continuing Education Committee whose work and recommendations, including defining the Committee's definition and standards for cultural competency, are captured in this report.

Rule Coordinator:  Keely West, keely.l.west@state.or.us, 503-945-6292.
