Investigative Guidelines

The Oregon State Public Health Laboratory provides information on TB diagnostic testing including QuantiFERON, smear, GeneXpert MTB/RIF, culture and drug susceptibility testing.

Per OAR 333-018-0018, culture positive isolates must be submitted to the OSPHL for susceptibility and genotyping.

Legal Interventions

Resources for basic guidance on understanding the process involved with implementing legal orders for TB suspects, cases and contacts. Sample letters and documentation are included. Oregon specific guidelines are contained in the Oregon Isolation and Quarantine Bench Book.

TB Training

There are many excellent web based TB trainings available on a variety of topics from the CDC and regional TB training centers.

  • The TB Training Plan - a modifiable document with links to a variety of online TB trainings. The document's intended use is to assist LHDs with developing training for staff new to TB.
Consultation Services

The TB Program offers consultation services to all local health departments on contact investigations; the medical management of TB suspects, cases and those infected with TB; nurse case management and infection control. Contact us for details.

The Curry International Tuberculosis Center in San Francisco offers a "Warmline" for TB case consultation. All calls are returned within 24 hours.
