Meeting Objectives
Meeting Objectives:  
  • Bring agency, industry, academic, and nonprofit leaders and legislators (and others contributing to invasive species efforts in Oregon) together to:
  • review the results and implications of the statewide management assessment of invasive species;
  • develop a shared vision of how we can implement the 12 recommendations from the statewide management assessment of invasive species to address the threat of invasive species to Oregon’s natural resources, economy, and quality of life;
  • develop a shared understanding of and support for the legislative concepts for the 2011 legislative session that will provide Oregon with adequate protections from invasive species; and
  • identify next steps.
Expected Work Product:
  • A report to the Governor and Legislature that describes the actions, strategies, and recommendations developed by summit participants to deal with invasive species in Oregon.
  • A draft statewide invasive species strategic plan that identifies priority strategies and costs to address the threat of invasive species to Oregon.

A meeting report for the Oregon Invasive Species Council (OISC) that captures the discussion and perspectives of members that includes areas of agreement and areas where a significant diversity of views exists.

8:30 am     Gather and coffee

8:30–9:30    Statewide Invasive Species Summit Debrief—Council members will discuss the outcomes of the statewide invasive species summit and discuss key next steps—All Council and advisory committee members

9:30–10:30    Committee reports—The outreach and education, legislative, tunicate, bylaws, and iMapInvasives committees will provide updates on Council activities as well as next steps—Sam Chan, Mark Sytsma, Rick Boatner, Lisa DeBruyckere and Steve Buttrick

10:30–10:45    BREAK

10:45–11:00    The “Spot the Invader” Committee will report to the Council on event planning for 2011—Vern Holm, Steve Buttrick, and Nancy Willmes

11:00–1:00        Roundtable discussions—WORKING LUNCH

1:00–2:00    Calendar species for 2010, Top 10 stories to include in annual report card, 100 Worst List updates, and status of new advisory committee members and 2011 Council members processes—Lisa DeBruyckere
