The Oregon Medical Board (OMB) employs a number of qualified medical consultants in the capacity of independent contractors. These consultants provide medical consulting services such as case review, licensee evaluations, written reports, testimony at hearings and investigative interviews. Consultants must have an active, unrestricted, Oregon license (MD, DO, PA, LAc) and are selected based on their medical specialty. Consultants must be in an active clinical practice from which they derive their income. The development of a consultant pool (comprised of a large cross-section of specialties) enables the Board to protect the public by ensuring that medical professionals under investigation are being evaluated by those best trained to judge the facts of the case in a timely manner.
The personal services contracts for medical consultants generally correspond with the state’s biennial system. New contracts for each biennium run from July 1 of an odd-numbered year through June 30 of the following odd-numbered year. There is no guaranteed amount of work; a consultant may be used multiple times or not at all.
Licensees interested in becoming medical consultants can contact the Board’s Medical Director at 971-673-2700 and a consultant contract packet will be mailed to you. A video guide to completing the contract can be found at the link below.
