SHIRIN R. SUKUMAR, MD
Dr. Sukumar is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. She is on staff at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Legacy Health System, adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University, and a member of the American Geriatrics Society and Oregon Medical Association. Dr. Sukumar has worked as a primary care physician on the Oregon coast and served as geriatrician and medical director for several multilevel nursing facilities in the Portland area. Currently, she works with the Home Based Primary care program at the Portland VA providing care to homebound veterans. Her areas of focus include safe prescribing practices, care of the elderly, immunization and infection control, osteoporosis, and dementia.
Dr. Sukumar received her medical degree from the Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore, India, where she was Valedictorian. She completed her internship and Internal Medicine Residency at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center and Oregon Health and Science University. She subspecialized in Geriatrics and completed her Fellowship at the Oregon Health and Science University in 2002.
