Amity Pioneer Cemetery, Yamhill County Jospeh Watt was enchanted with Oregon's "Garden of Eden." His enthusiasum convinced his entire family to return with him in 1848. Both he and his father took out donation land claims in what is now Amity...the town being christened by brother Ahio, the first school teacher in 1849. When father John died in 1854, they buried him in the south most corner of his DLC (where Ash Swale enters Salt Creek). Several month's later mother Mary bequeathed these 5 acres for a cemetery. Before the end of the next year she was laid to rest by her husband. Today 13 Watts fill their family plot. Through the years three more small parcels of adjoining land has been added for a total of about 7 1/2 acres. If you would like your cemetery included as a featured historic cemetery, please contact Kuri Gill at Kuri.Gill@state.or.us or (503) 986-0685.
