The gift of Oregon State Parks is easier to give with new online store

Nov. 27, 2015

What better stocking stuffer than a year of free parking at Oregon's state parks? From Dec. 1-31, holiday shoppers can buy an annual day-use parking permit for only $25--that's $5 off the regular price of $30. Purchasing these passes is now easier than ever -- buy them online at https://store.oregonstateparks.org .

Parking costs $5 a day at 26 Oregon State Parks unless you have a 12- or 24-month parking permit or a same-day camping receipt. The 24-month pass is $50. The permits are transferable from vehicle to vehicle.

"Look forward to another year of hiking, camping, beachcombing, and picnicking," says Lisa Sumption, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department director. "When you get or renew yours, consider giving one as a gift. Your friends and family will thank you."

The 12- and 24-month OPRD permits can be purchased online at https://store.oregonstateparks.org with a card bearing the Visa or MasterCard logo. First time members of the private nonprofit Oregon State Parks Foundation (http://www.oregonstateparksfoundation.org/membership/) receive a free 12-month permit at the $45 membership level or above.

Walk-in customers can buy the OPRD permits and gift certificates at major OPRD offices, some state park friends' group stores and local businesses throughout the state. For a complete list of vendors, visit http://oregonstateparks.org .

Visitors are the single largest source of funding for Oregon's state parks. Revenue from RV registrations and the Oregon Lottery, dedicated by voters in 1998 and 2010, make up the rest.
