Project advisors

A team of sixteen project advisors guided the work of project consultant, Sara Behrman. These advisors included well-respected individuals from public libraries, colleges and universities, government agencies, and the nonprofit sector. The varied perspectives of these advisors, together with the invaluable information provided by public library staff and community partners from around the state, has resulted in a comprehensive look at how best to promote early literacy in Oregon.

Role of the project advisors
  • Selected the project consultant.
  • Clarified project objectives, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Participated in at least one of the nine regional meetings held throughout Oregon from August-October 2005.
  • Helped identify participants for the regional meetings.
  • Facilitated regional discussions by introducing the agenda, identifying the exemplary local library-based early literacy program being featured at regional meetings, and acting as the local champion for Early Literacy.
  • Helped build momentum and excitement by talking about the Initiative with others.
  • Shared successful fundraising ideas as well as the names of local philanthropists and foundations with a special interest in Early Literacy.
  • Supplied information on local and regional early childhood development/Early Literacy planning efforts.
