Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of the Polk County District Attorney's Office, is continuing the investigation into last Friday morning's serious injury pedestrian-involved collision that occurred along Highway 18 about four miles west of Grand Ronde in Polk County. The names of the driver and injured pedestrian are released in this update.
On January 3, 2014 at approximately 5:05 a.m., a report was received that an adult male was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle along Highway 18 near milepost 18. Polk County Sheriff's Office and West Valley Fire District personnel arrived first and confirmed the initial report.
Preliminary investigation indicates GABRIEL TRUJILLO-HERNANDEZ, age 33, from Springfield, was traveling westbound with LISA DUNNIHOO, age 31, from Eugene, when they stopped on the highway shoulder. TRUJILLO-HERNANDEZ had exited the car before being struck by the vehicle driven by DUNNIHOO.
TRUJILLO-HERNANDEZ was transported by ground ambulance to Salem Hospital where he is in critical condition. The involved vehicle and DUNNIHOO remained at the scene.
OSP troopers and detectives are working with Polk County District Attorney's Office in the ongoing investigation. No enforcement decision taken while the investigation continues.
