Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation
into Friday morning's fatal crash on Highway 213 near Mulino that resulted in
the death of a Molalla woman.
On January 31, 2014 at approximately 4:33 a.m., a 1987 Nissan pickup, operated
by SOLEDAD CASTRO-MONTES, age 45, from Molalla, was northbound on Highway 213
near milepost 13 and was approaching South Macksburg Road. A 2004 Chevrolet
pickup, operated by GARRY BEATTY, age 49, from Mulino was southbound on Highway
213 near the same location.
CASTRO-MONTES turned left and into the path of BEATTY'S pickup and the two
vehicles crashed nearly head-on. CASTRO-MONTES sustained fatal injuries from
the crash. BEATTY did not receive any injuries.
Both CASTRO-MONTES and BEATTY were wearing safety belts. The airbag in BEATTY'S
pickup deployed. There was no air bag in CASTO-MONTES' vehicle.
OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, and
local fire and EMS. The highway was closed for about four hours during the
