A Salem man was cited and released for DUII and Reckless
Driving in relation to an early morning commercial motor vehicle crash on
Highway 154 near milepost 1.
On February 3, 2014 at approximately 7:25 a.m., a dump
truck pulling a fully loaded trailer with gravel, operated by THOMAS COLE, age
46, from Salem, was northbound on Highway 154 near milepost 1. COLE lost control
of the dump truck and trailer and went off and onto the northbound shoulder.
The dump truck came back onto the roadway and jackknifed. The dump truck came
to an uncontrolled rest on its top in the middle of the roadway. The trailer
came to an uncontrolled rest on its side in the northbound ditch.
COLE was not wearing a safety belt and was transported by
ground ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center for minor injuries.
OSP troopers contacted COLE at the medical center and
subsequently cited and released him for DUII and Reckless Driving.
Investigators believe alcohol use was a contributing factor in the cause of the
The roadway was completely blocked for about four (4)
hours. ODOT was able to set up a detour during the investigation.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Yamhill County Sheriff's
Office, ODOT, Dayton Fire Department and McMinnville Fire Department.
