On January 30, 2013 at approximately 6:40 p.m., an OSP senior trooper stopped a 2005 Honda Accord displaying Arizona license plates off the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near milepost 377 for failing to signal lane changes. The car's two occupants were identified as driver SONLA MARQUEZ-LOZANO, age 22, and passenger YEDID ZAMUDIO-VAZQUEZ, age 20, both from Phoenix, Arizona.
Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop resulted in the trooper discovering approximately 5 pounds of heroin concealed in two Valentine teddy bear baskets found in the trunk. Estimated value of the seized heroin is $200,000.
Both women were arrested without incident and lodged in the Malheur County Jail for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance - Heroin.
