Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 199 north of Oregon/California Border

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Wednesday afternoon's single vehicle fatal traffic crash along Highway 199 about eight miles south of Cave Junction that resulted in the death of an 75-year old man and critical injuries to a 65-year old woman. Both names are released in this update.
According to Sergeant First Class Jeff Proulx, on February 6, 2013 at approximately 1:54 p.m., a 2005 Dodge pickup driven by FLOYD DALE LONG, age 75, from Crescent City, California, was southbound Highway 199 near milepost 37 when it failed to negotiate a curve. The pickup crossed the northbound lane and crashed head-on into a tree.
LONG, who was using safety restraints, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Passenger SANDRA CROCKETT, age 65, from Crescent City, was transported by Mercy Flights to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford for treatment of serious injuries. Her use of safety restraints is pending confirmation.
OSP troopers from the Grants Pass work site were assisted at the scene by Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Illinois Valley Fire District, AMR ambulance, Mercy Flights, and ODOT.
