Huntington Fire Department personnel were on scene Wednesday night working to extinguish a semi-trailer fire in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 about eight miles west of Huntington in eastern Oregon. All lanes were open to traffic early Thursday morning.

According to Sergeant Kurt Marvin, on February 12, 2014 at approximately 7:40 p.m., a commercial truck driver pulling a semi-trailer loaded with paper products was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 357 coming down Three Mile Hill when the trailer brakes caught fire. The driver stopped and disconnected the truck from the trailer to create separation, preventing the fire from spreading to the truck.

Both lanes were briefly closed and traffic was limited to the left lane until all lanes were open about 3:00 a.m. ODOT and OSP assisted at the scene.
